A very special mom was the motivation behind the Noble Trade Ironman event, which has raised more than $365,000 for lymphoma research at Princess Margaret Hospital.

“She was really our ironwoman,” daughter Ellen says of her late mother, Ann Storfer, who had mantle cell lymphoma, a rare form of the disease. “We are a close-knit family who understands firsthand the anguish of having a loved one diagnosed with a life-threatening disease.”

The experience compelled Ellen and her brother, Michael, to launch a fundraising campaign tied to a triathlon event. The first donation came from the family business, Noble Trade; the remainder from customers, vendors, family and friends.

Michael and four other employees completed the challenging Wisconsin Ironman Triathlon in September 2005. Their only regret was that Ann wasn't at the finish line cheering them on. She succumbed to the disease two months before their fundraising goal was reached.

Impact: More than $365,000 from the Noble Trade company – employees, customers, vendors, family and friends – to advance lymphoma research at Princess Margaret Hospital, in honour of Ann Storfer.

Flower Power for Young Fundraisers
Friendship and flower power turned 11-year-old best friends into successful fundraisers for Princess Margaret Hospital.

The Toronto girls, Jordana Goldman and Fredi Kent, raised $1,800 by selling $2 flower pens they made in honour of a family friend who died at 42 from leukemia.

“Raising money to help others is a great thing and it makes us feel wonderful,”
says Jordana.

“These flower pens put a smile on everyone's faces,” says Fredi. “Everybody likes them and I know that when they buy them, they're thinking about people who have cancer right now and hoping they get better.”

Harry's Spring Run-Off 8k & 5k
They ran, they walked, they crawled – and some even wore suits – to raise more than $200,000 for prostate cancer research at Princess Margaret Hospital. More than 3,300 participants supported the first annual Harry's Spring Run-Off 8K & 5K to Fight Prostate Cancer. It was a terrific kick-off to next year's fundraising, with more than 100 events of every shape and size planned.
