Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation

The only true asset a social enterprise has is its vision. Our vision at The Princess Margaret is a powerful one to - "CONQUER CANCER IN OUR LIFETIME". Our vision and creed keep us focused, motivated and inspired. This is our ambition and our aspiration. Everyone at The Princess Margaret has a personal story and connection to cancer.

The most recent statistics show that 40 per cent of Canadian women and 45 per cent of men will develop cancer in their lifetime. These numbers are daunting and chances are if you are reading this, you have a personal story about cancer.

Sometimes it seems we have made slow or no progress in our fight to conquer this disease but the truth is that this is not correct. Just look at the many advances made by scientists over the past 30 years as well as survivorship numbers and the progress we have made in early detection. Despite this, we haven't reached our goal yet – to Conquer Cancer – and we will keep working diligently until we do.

As Canadians, I think we should be proud of the fact The Princess Margaret is one of the top five cancer research centres in the world. Dr. Ben Neel, Dr. Mary Gospodarowicz, Dr. Tak Mak, Dr. John Dick, Dr. Frances Shepherd, Dr. David Jaffray and many others… are all world leaders in their respective areas of research and treatment. (Please read our most recent annual report for more information).

We are so grateful for supporters like the Campbell Family's, Linda, Gaye, and Susan. The Campbell Family Cancer Research Institute has been established through their generous gifts and confidence in the research team that we have assembled. "Charity is the greatest gift of all." This quote speaks to the extraordinary gifts we receive from our donor and volunteer community.

We have so many events and activities, large and small, and each one contributes resources and inspiration to The Princess Margaret. We have walkers and their donors whose support through The Shoppers Drug Mart® Weekend to End Women's Cancers™ means so much. We have riders who contribute to "Conquering Cancer" by cycling 200km to Niagara Falls in The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer, thanks to them and their generous donors. And, on October 1st, we will be at Ontario Place for our newest fundraising event that is shaping up to be a hit, Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer presented by Boston Pizza. We receive tribute donations for $10, $25 or $50, all which are important to us. We sell lottery tickets and hold over 100 community events a year, all to raise awareness and funds for one of the "Top Five".

So please, spend some time on our site. Partner with us by making a donation, share a story, post a comment on my blog, and join us on facebook. Get to know one of our top researchers or read a patient story. Help us to "Conquer Cancer in Our Lifetime". We can't do it alone.
