Sydney Waldman - Like Mother Like Daughter…in the very best way!

|
|
Sydney Waldman is just six years old and has already embraced the importance of raising money for important causes. Her cause is the same as her mom, Elana’s—Princess Margaret Hospital—where Elana has been a patient treated for ovarian cancer. Mom has also been the energy and the catalyst behind a ‘high fashion’ event called aWEARness that has raised over $400,000 for the hospital.
Sydney (who said we could call her ‘Syd’) raised $83 with her friend Ruby setting up a stand outside her home and selling jewelry and art (“mostly glitter art”, she said) to neighbours and family. She wanted to deliver her donation in person to the Foundation, and got the chance to give it to the president, Paul Alofs. Sydney told him that her next fundraising idea was to have a sale for her old toys that she didn’t use any more.
Elana Waldman is such a wonderful ambassador for the hospital (click here to see her video) that her enthusiasm can’t help but rub off on her daughter. Sydney knows that Princess Margaret Hospital has been looking after her mom, and giving her important medicine to fight the cancer. And while she may only be six, Sydney now has an appreciation for hospitals and philanthropy that most children don’t develop until they are much much older.
When asked what jewelry was the best seller, Sydney answered ‘ME’! Everyone in the room laughed and agreed…she is indeed a best seller!
