It was a
breathtaking weekend both literally and figuratively! I’m exhausted but
exhilarated from the 2010 Ride to Conquer Cancer®, and so proud of our
accomplishment. Collectively, we raised over $16.1 million for The
Campbell Family Cancer Research Institute at The Princess Margaret, one of the
top 5 cancer research centres in the world. With your help and hard work, we
have surpassed the gold standard we created in The 2009 Ride and have supported
breakthrough cancer research at The Princess Margaret. Strength in numbers
indeed. 4,108 Riders departed the CNE energized, and rode over the incredible
200-mile distance or the historic 200-kilometre distance to Niagara Falls. All with their brand new
jerseys and the will to conquer cancer in our lifetime. All united by the
cause. Except for some rain on the M200 course on Sunday, even the weather
cooperated.
The Volunteers and Crew sparkled, the crowds of supporters along the road
shouted out encouragement to the throng of bike-riding heroes. How can we say
thank you? For all of the people who rode and the community of donors who
supported, for all of my colleagues at the Foundation, we can continue to work
hard and smart and raise the money and support the scientists, clinicians, and
support staff needed to “Conquer Cancer in Our Lifetime”.
In three years of existence, this cycling journey has been much more than
a two-day trip to me. Yes, it’s a fantastic challenge and yes, it raised an
unthinkable amount of money for cancer research, but what moves me the most are
the stories of the impact that The Ride has on people personally, here across
Ontario and all over Canada, how meaningful and enduring it is.
I can’t quite impart how grateful
I am to you and how significant your participation is to our vision to conquer
cancer. To our fearless Riders and Crew, we are grateful - more than words can
express.
The Ride of a lifetime. Until
next year! A record. A memory forever.
We would like to thank all of the
sponsors and partners of The Ride, including Presenting Sponsor - Swiss Chalet,
