On July 10, 550 participants had a great time doing the triathlon, duathlon or relay as part of Joe's Team. |
 | It’s a special moment when a world-class cancer scientist gets choked up while talking about her work. That’s precisely what happened at the Joe’s Team Triathlon on July 10. Dr. Fei -Fei Liu, a Radiation Oncologist at The Princess Margaret, was sharing her feelings as a participant, as well as the recipient of this years fundraising total of $1.3 million. The funds will be used to further research and treatment of head and neck Cancers at Princess Margaret Hospital. An extended round of applause was given to Joe Finley, the incredible man who used his cancer diagnosis as a catalyst to organize a triathlon in 2006. His spirit has grown this event into one of the top in the province, with 550 participants taking part this year in a triathlon, duathlon, or a relay. The weather was perfect at the CNIB camp on Lake Joseph, the location of this year’s event. The lake water was so warm that many people decided to forgo the wetsuits that triathletes prefer for Ontario lakes.
The location in Muskoka provided a great family environment as many people stayed at family cottages nearby.

Author, Trevor Zimmer with Joe Finley. In just four years, Joe's Team has raised $3.5 Million to support head and neck cancer research at The Princess Margaret. |
 | The event attracted a wide range of participants, from members of Canada’s national triathlon team, to people doing their first ever attempt at swimming 750m, cycling 20 km, and finally running 5 km. There was also a duathlon event, consisting of a run-cycle-run. Due to a significant act of philanthropy by the Lamarche Family Foundation, The Jim Cuddy Band returned once again and provided all participants with a memorable evening. In just four years, Joe’s Team triathlon has raised a total of $3.5 Million to support critical cancer research at The Princess Margaret. Thanks to Joe Finley, Cara and your family for your strength and courage, and for believing that CANcer BE BEATEN. For more information visit www.joesteam.ca.
